In short
What is accounts preparation?
Accounts preparation is turning a business's financial records into year-end accounts that show its profit or loss and its financial position. Limited companies must file statutory accounts at Companies House within 9 months of their year end, and every business uses its accounts to calculate its tax. An accountant prepares the accounts, makes the year-end adjustments and files them on time.

Accounts preparation FAQs
When are limited company accounts due?
Private limited company accounts must be filed at Companies House within 9 months of the company's year end. A new company's first accounts are due 21 months after incorporation.
How much does accounts preparation cost?
Our one-off prices start at £150 plus VAT for dormant company accounts, £199 for sole trader accounts with your tax return, and £499 for limited company accounts with the CT600.
Do sole traders need to prepare accounts?
Sole traders don't file accounts publicly, but they need accounts to work out the profit for their Self Assessment tax return. Simpler cash basis accounts are now the default for most sole traders.
What are statutory accounts?
Statutory accounts are the formal year-end accounts a limited company or LLP must file at Companies House. They include a balance sheet and notes, and for most small companies a profit and loss account for HMRC.
What happens if company accounts are filed late?
Companies House charges an automatic penalty from £150 for up to a month late, rising to £1,500 for more than 6 months. The penalty doubles if accounts are late two years in a row.
Can you prepare accounts for previous years?
Yes. We prepare catch-up accounts for earlier years from £199 plus VAT per year, confirmed once we've seen your records.
Do I need an audit?
Most small companies are exempt from audit. We check your company's size against the current thresholds and tell you if an audit applies.
What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounts preparation?
Bookkeeping records your transactions during the year. Accounts preparation turns those records into year-end accounts, with adjustments, tax calculations and filing.
Can you file my company's accounts at Companies House?
Yes. We file your accounts at Companies House and your Corporation Tax return with HMRC, and confirm when both have been accepted.
How long does it take to prepare year-end accounts?
Most accounts are ready within 10 to 15 working days of receiving complete records. We'll confirm a timetable that meets your deadline.
